Protect Yourself, Protect Your Community

An HIV diagnosis doesn’t have to stop you from living a long and healthy life. With the proper treatment and care, you can live as long as someone who doesn’t have HIV.

The best way to fight HIV is to know your status. AIDS Outreach offers free rapid HIV and Syphilis testing to anyone in Gallatin, Park and Madison Counties.

For those who are HIV+, treatment should begin as soon as possible. We’ll help connect you with a healthcare provider, assist you in finding financial resources, and offer an emotional support system for you and your family or caregiver.

You don’t have to manage HIV on your own, we’re here for you.

How you can Help

There are many ways you can help decrease the changes of HIV progressing to AIDS. Through outreach and testing, we can help more people infected with HIV manage the disease.

Risk Factors of HIV:

  • Having unprotected sex with a partner whose HIV status you do not know, or are unsure of
  • Having more than one sexual partner
  • Received blood or blood products before 1985
  • Used Intravenous drugs or shared needles with others
  • Had sex with someone who shoots drugs and shares needles with others
  • Shared needles for tattooing or body piercing
  • Are sexually active
  • Have a new partner

HIV Stats

Currently only 60% of people with HIV know their status.0%
The remaining 40% (over 14 million people) still need to access HIV testing services0%
New HIV infections among children have declined by 50% since 20100%

Prevention

If you are at a higher risk of contracting the virus, combining it with pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) decreases your chances even more

Testing

Testing is easy and it’s a short wait to get your results. A rapid HIV Screening Test is done by a slight prick on your finger, and the results are ready in 15 minutes.

Treatment

The HIV medication is called Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) and must be taken on a daily basis. In most cases, it’s as simple as one pill per day. Treatment should be started immediately; delaying it will allow the virus to continue harming your immune system.
